EROSION ForM Sculpture Exhibition 2025

I was delighted to have my sculpture ‘Erosion‘ selected for the ForM Sculpture Exhibition in the beautiful surroundings of The Walled Garden at Bangor Castle.

The exhibition curators selected an ideal position for ‘Erosion’, amidst green, bronze and silver planting to complement the burnt tones of the Mild Steel, while allowing the surrounding foliage to be reflected in the concave Stainless Steel leaf sections of the Sculpture.

‘Erosion‘ was inspired by aged marine pillars, worn over time by ships lines, which I observed during my time at sea.

Crafted from Mild Steel, which has been allowed to weather, capturing the passage of time and the effects of exposure.

The feature Stainless Steel elements, spaced along the sculpture, represent where the lines have chafed the pillars over the years, reflecting their timber origins.

These four sections are concave, leaf shaped and cold formed in 2mm marine grade stainless steel, polished to a mirror finish and dressed.   Each leaf is welded along the midrib and veins to achieve a natural, organic appearance.

The polished resilience of the stainless-steel contrasts with the burnt orange of the mild steel both in strength and colour.

Dimensions:   80x80x650mm (lower pillar) – 80x80x900mm (taller pillar) – Secured underground.
