Prix D’Elegance Cork Week 2022

2022 is the first year that a dedicated Classics Class was included in Cork Week hosted by the Royal Cork Yacht Club, and the racing made a fantastic viewing spectacle for shoreline onlookers over the week.

My brief for this commission was to create a Classic Yacht Model as a Perpetual Trophy for this prestigious event to be known as the ‘Prix D’Elegance‘

I drew my inspiration from various aspects of Classic Yachts featuring a tapered stern, cockpit, bowsprit with dolphin striker and a Gaff Rig.

My version of a Classic Yacht was designed with a stainless steel hull and copper sails. Her hull is polished to a mirror finish and topsides have a brushed finish for contrast and detail.

All sails are in lacquered copper with Stainless Steel welds to create the look of hanks as seen on older vessels.

She is mounted on a Sapele base – LOA 600mm.

The ‘Prix D’Elegance’ trophy was won by Elsie, a Classic Cork One Design, built in 1896.
