102 Degrees
€2,490.00
I am always intrigued by the illusion of simplicity. This piece represents a solid stainless-steel bar, and I was curious to see how it would react if twisted through 90 degrees.
My goal was to create that illusion with this Stainless Steel Sculpture, although it is considered technically impossible.
Stainless steel offers a unique opportunity to achieve such illusions, and I wanted to push its limits.
As steel twists, it also curves slightly inwards.
After several failed attempts, I realised that the only way to achieve the ‘soft’ look I envisioned was to twist and weld strips of 2mm sheet.
It looks simple – but it was not! In fact, the twisted section alone required 5.5 meters of welding.
The mirror finish adds another layer of intrigue, distorting and reflecting its surroundings.
As you move past, the shifting reflections create the illusion that the piece is alive.
