There are many skills fathers should pass on to their children: how to ride a bike, how to skim a stone, and of course, how to make a paper airplane.    Lately, I’ve wondered if there’s a whole generation that never learned this simple joy.

After all, paper airplanes were our secret weapon against boredom in school—sometimes earning us a laugh, sometimes a trip to the corridor!

Based on the ‘Dart’—one of the simplest paper planes to make—I wondered if it would be possible to create one as a Stainless Steel Sculpture.

This is the result!

I started with an A2 sheet of paper, folded it into a classic paper plane, and then set out to replicate it in 2mm stainless steel.

After creating templates, I carefully cut out each section, TIG welded them together, dressed the welds, and mirror-polished the entire piece.

For the base I wanted to give the illusion of flight as the Dart spirals its way upwards.

Dimensions: 620x340x300mm at highest point on 200mm circular base.

A smaller version made from A4 size ‘paper’ is also available €490.00 – images will be uploaded soon
