The ‘Bolero‘ Stainless Steel Sculpture is the latest addition to my series of ‘Dance’ inspired sculptures.

Bolero is traditionally danced in a 4/4 time signature, with a tempo that is expressed through a rhythm of “slows” and “quicks,” where a slow represents two beats and a quick represents one.

This distinctive rhythm brings together the smooth rise and fall of the waltz, the intricate contra-body movement of tango, and the sensual, unhurried quality of Latin dance.

In this sculpture, I sought to capture these nuanced movements through the interwoven positions of the four dancers.

As you circle the piece, each angle reveals a new perspective—offering glimpses of the dancers frozen mid-motion in a range of three-dimensional poses that convey both energy and fluidity.

The interplay of light and shadow across the surface enhances the sculpture’s complexity, casting delicate reflections that create a harmonious balance of illumination and darkness. These contrasts bring the figures to life, echoing the dynamic tension and beauty of the Bolero.

Bolero is designed, using triple layers of contoured marine grade stainless steel, cut then shaped by hand, tig welded, dressed, and polished to a mirror finish.

Images shown include Rhapsody and Pirouette from the ‘Dance’ Series taken at Art Source RDS 2024.
